Karner St. Michal
Constance or Karner St. Michala was founded in the second third of the 15th century. As the name suggests, it was used to store the remains of the older graves of the former cemetery of the nearby parish church. Today's above-ground part of the ossuary was built at the beginning of the 16th century and after the church fire in 1528 it was used as a chapel. In 1560, due to the Turkish danger, the ossuary was used as a city armory with a metalwork in the basement.
After reconstruction and monument research, the building came under the administration of the Trenčín Museum and since 2007 it has a permanent exhibition. Artworks exhibited in Karner St. Michal represent a large collection of sacred art in the collections of the Trenčín Museum in Trenčín. Gothic sculptures are complemented by sculptures and paintings from the Baroque period.
