Jamaica Suk

Jamaica Suk, a DJ, musician and experimental artist, has fused her Bay Area California jazz and metal roots with a sense of soulful techno, a combination that has made her the leader of driving dancefloor workouts across Europe. With her own vinyl label Gradient and accompanying event series, alongside extensive activity as a DJ and producer, she has found a platform in Berlin for the breadth of her musical versatility.

In her signature distorted melodies and echoes of melancholic bass guitar, you can hear where Jamaica started - as a teenager she played bass guitar in jazz, grindcore, math rock and shoegaze bands before diving deep into the Bay Area's underground house and techno scene. Jazz musician by day, DJ by night, she quickly established a monthly party at 222 Hyde Street and in grimy warehouses. Engineering was also an early passion, including completing an audio engineering program near San Francisco at the prestigious Pyramind. The marriage of technology and music, coupled with an intuition for minimalism and repetition from Reich and Pan Sonic to techno classics landed her in Berlin.
