Itaca are the most loving response to the euro crisis. The two Germans have made the decision to write their lyrics in Italian for many important reasons: the utopian urge to create European identity, the melodiousness of the Italian language and their unimaginable romantic notion, cruising with a white Fiat Panda 4x4 south across the Alps. The result is something Rolling Stone Italia's "new canzone popolare" and Noisey Italia celebrate as a German-Italian synthpop jewel. The band develops a foreign language poetics that appears to their Italian audience surprisingly new and is therefore widely regarded as a sensation and the insider tip in the Italian indie scene. However, even in Germany, where no one understands, Itaca have achieved a cult status through their often high-energy pop songs inspired by Italo-Disco and Synthwave. Their album Mi Manchi, released on the Italian label Aloch Dischi in 2017, reached all five stars in the Musikexpress and the title song was rated as one of the 30 best songs of the year.
