Every day, in cities around the world, hundreds of millions of meals are served. But where does all the food come from? Architect Carolyn Steel discusses the daily miracle of feeding a city, and shows the ancient food routes that shaped the modern world. How can the society re-use this potential to forge a better, more sustainable future for the society today? Putting food back at the heart of the society and her “sitopia” concept, Steel sees the respect to food as a powerful tool to re-establish relationships between the city and the countryside that feeds it.

Carolyn Steel is a leading thinker on food and cities. Her 2008 book Hungry City received international acclaim, establishing her as an influential voice across a range of fields in academia, industry and the arts. It has been translated into seven languages and has become a key text for architects, planners, green thinkers and food professionals. A London-based architect, academic and writer, Carolyn has lectured at received more than one million views. Her new book, Sitopia, is due to be published by Chatto & Windus in March 2020.

The talk is a part of FoodCAMP, a series of events dedicated to the synergies between food and urbanism. Talk in English with Czech translation.
