I Prevail
I Prevail is an American rock band formed in 2013 in Southfield. They gained public attention with their cover of Taylor Swift’s song Blank Space, which went viral in 2014 and was certified platinum in the U.S. This recording launched their career, followed by the release of their debut EP Heart vs. Mind later that year, featuring singles like Love, Lust, and Liars and The Enemy.
In October 2016, they released their first studio album Lifelines, which included hits such as Scars, Stuck in Your Head, and Come and Get It.
In 2019, they released their second album Trauma, showcasing a darker and more personal side of the band. Notable tracks include Bow Down, Breaking Down, and Paranoid. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards – for Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance. With this release, I Prevail cemented their reputation as a band that pushes genre boundaries and embraces experimentation.
Their third studio album True Power was released in August 2022, continuing their heavy, energetic style and featuring singles like Body Bag, Bad Things, and Self-Destruction. It was followed by the True Power Tour, where they performed alongside bands like Pierce the Veil and Fit for a King.
Musically, I Prevail blend elements of post-hardcore, metalcore, hard rock, alternative metal, nu-metal, and pop punk. Their sound is often influenced by electronic music, trap, hip-hop, and rap, creating a modern and powerful style marked by the contrast between clean vocals and aggressive screams.
The current lineup consists of Brian Burkheiser (clean vocals), Eric Vanlerberghe (screams/growling and vocals), Steve Menoian (lead guitar), Dylan Bowman (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Gabe Helguera (drums). The band is known for their dynamic live shows, honest lyrics, and ability to combine heaviness with melody and emotion.
