Emilíana Torrini

Emilíana Torrini Davíðsdóttir (born 16 May 1977, Reykjavík, Iceland) is an Icelandic singer and songwriter with Italian roots on her father's side. She is known for her soft, ethereal voice and musical style that combines pop, folk, electronica and indie. In her youth she sang in a children's choir and started her career with the band GusGus. In 1999, she released her debut solo album Love in the Time of Science, produced by Roland Orzabal of Tears for Fears. She rose to fame with Gollum's Song from the film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002). Her album Fisherman's Woman (2005) was also successful, featuring an acoustic and intimate sound. Her song Jungle Drum from the album Me and Armini (2008) became a European hit. In 2013, she released the album Tookah, which experiments with electronica. Emilíana has also collaborated with artists such as Kylie Minogue and Thom Yorke. Her music is introspective, melancholic and appreciated for its originality and emotional depth.
