Ekrem Mamutovic Orkestar
Ekrem Mamutović Orkestar is one of the most renowned Roma brass bands not only in Serbia, but also in the world.
The members of this band come from Vranje in South Serbia – a town where brass music is passed down from generation to generation. And the Mamutovićs are among its greatest masters. The band is led by virtuoso trumpeter Ekrem Mamutović, a descendant of one of the oldest Roma musical families in the Balkans. He literally grew up with a trumpet in his hand and by the age of 12 he was on stage as a member of the family band. The band was founded by his great-grandfather more than 100 years ago. Like his ancestors, Ekrem won several awards at the famous brass music festival in the Serbian mountain town of Guča.
