Divergent Connections Orchestra
Divergent Connections Orchestra is an improvisational orchestra that first appeared on the scene in 2014, founded by Brno improviser and experimenter (graduate and now also teacher at JAMU) Pavel Zlámal, who is also its artistic director and conductor. The ensemble is made up of experienced musicians of different genres, who are united by the common idea of discovering and searching beyond the boundaries of established conventions. The musical qualities of the members allow not only uncompromising sound experiments, but also the use of stylistic clichés in surprising contexts. Through a system of non-classical conducting gestures, Zlámal as conductor then enters the action and directs the musical flow. The music thus created is a work of the present moment, the result of the interaction between the musicians and the conductor. Often the productions have a performative overlap.
