Alcest

Alcest is a French post-black metal band from Bagnols-sur-Cèze – a musical project that gave birth to the genre of "blackgaze" – a mixture of post-black metal, post-rock and shoegaze.

Founded in 2000 by Niege (Stéphane Paut) and joined by Winterhalter (Jean Deflandre) in 2009, the "dreamy" music of the band has inspired many others since its inception, such as Deafheaven and Harakiri For the Sky. Alcest have announced the release of a new album, Les Chants de l'Aurore (Songs of the Dawn), (2024) which comes after 2019's darker Spiritual Instinct.
