Spiritual Front
The Roman band Spiritual Front runs the sensual tenets of Italian pop music through several layers of nihilist gloom, from dark cabaret in the style of Nick Cave or Tom Waits to naturalistic horrors for fans of late-period Scott Walker and neofolk. The lineup debuted in 1999 with the pointedly-titled album Song for the Will; since then they have released nine more, along the way collaborating with Lydia Lunch or the Swedish martial industrial act Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio and focusing more and more on the poppy side of their artistic sensibility. Their latest release so far is 2023's The Queen Is Not Dead, consisting of The Smiths covers.
