Hornický pěvecký sbor Kladno

The Kladno Miners’ Choir was founded in 1958 in Stochov with 10 women and 4 men, the fifth man being its first conductor, music school teacher Miloš Chaloupka. Since the beginning, the choir has been closely connected with mining and the Kladno mines. It was founded on a mining estate, many of the singers worked in the surrounding mines in various mining professions and the others usually had at least one employee among their relatives. Later the choir moved to Kladno.

On various occasions, the choir also collaborated with masters of the spoken word, with actors from the drama of leading Czech theatres, to name but a few – Radovan Lukavský, Josef Vinklář, Jan Kanyza and Otakar Brousek Sr.

The choir has performed dozens of concerts of operas by Czech and international composers, featuring leading singers from the National Theatre and State Opera in Prague, the State Opera in Dresden, the J. K.Tyl Theatre in Pilsen and others, including Eduard Haken, Jan K. Anna Bortlová, Jiřína Marková, Jana Jonášová, Božena Effen- berková, Jitka Soběhartová, Libuše Márová, Iveta Žižlavská, Dalibor Jedlička, Miroslav Kopp, Jiří Kalendovský, Jiří Kusý, Pavel and Jaroslav Horáčková and many others.
