Midwife

Midwife is the pseudonym of multi-instrumentalist Madeline Johnston. She describes her work as heaven metal, defining it as emotional music that analyses processes of destruction and catharsis. Others describe her sound as dream-ambient (Flood Magazine), emotional apocalypse (SPIN), evoking a feeling of sadness that seems almost limitless (Bandcamp). In her music, Midwife evokes the ghosts of Julee Cruise, Kim Gordon, Beth Orton and Marissa Nadler, yet remains a completely unique artist, telling her own story. Midwife hosts her radio show on NTS, entitled Machine of Loving.
