Rape by Franca Rame performed by Dorota Landowska as part of the Mono at the Institute series.

Rape is a kind of laboratory of one actress' theatre. Dorota Landowska is an established and experienced solo performer. She is not afraid of successive challenges and so called going beyond her comfort zone. The show at the Theatre Institute is a continuation of her public performance of Franca Rame's text during the 2021 Sopot Literary Festival. This time, alongside the Italian actress's text, the performance will feature fragments of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy in a new translation by Jarosław Mikołajewski. The event will be a public process of entering the world depicted in the selected texts and composing a one-person presence in the face of human tragedy.

On 9 March 1973, Franca Rame, actress and lifelong companion of Daria Fo, was kidnapped, beaten and raped by five men. Two years later, she wrote a short monodrama. She originally maintained that the text was based on the confession of an anonymous victim. She later admitted that she was recreating her own hours-long nightmare in it. There are many indications that the rape was a neo-fascist conspiracy - an attempt to intimidate an artist who is a symbol of the fight for women's rights, protesting against, among other things, sexist treatment when reporting rape and violence.

This performance will be presented in Polish with no surtitles. After the performance, a Q&A session with Dorota Landowska will take place, moderated by series curator Mateusz Nowak.
