Omara Portuondo

Omar Portuondo – “first lady” and voice of Buena Vista Social Club. Founder of the project called Omar Es Cuba - The Last Kiss. The artist was, according to Billboard, described as “the most popular Cuban female voice of all time”. Omar has been performing on the stage continuously since she turned 15, which gives over 70 years of musical experience. She recorded her first CD before the revolution, where she sang in Spanish, inter alia, the dizzying arrangements of American standards, like the titular Old Black Magic. The news of the revolution in 1959 reached Omar during concerts in the USA. And although many of her musicians, including her sister, decided to stay in America, Omar returned to Cuba. Her voice was later to accompany a whole generation growing up in the world of Castro and Guevara.
