Collegium Marianum

Since the foundation in 1997, the Prague ensemble Collegium Marianum has focused on presenting the music of the 17thand 18thcenturies, especially by composers who were born or active in central Europe. The ensemble works under the artistic direction of the traverso player Jana Semerádová. Her active research, together with her study of baroque gesture, declamation and dance, enabled the ensemble to broaden its artistic portfolio.

Since its establishment, the ensemble has collaborated with many prominent European conductors, soloists, directors and choreographers (A. Parrott, H. Blažíková, D. Guillon, S. Azzolini, B. Lazar, G. Skamletz) and regularly creates original projects with the puppet theatre ensemble Buchty a loutky (the puppet opera Calisto, a production of Handel's opera Acis and Galatea). Collegium Marianum has already performed at many prestigious festivals (Utrecht Oude Muziek Festival, Musikfestspiele Potsdam, Bachfest Leipzig, Prague Spring, Concentus Moraviae) and regularly records not only for Czech Television and Czech Radio. Since 2008 it has been cooperating with the Supraphon label in the series Music of the 18th century Prague which has already released eight recordings of music by both well-known and lesser-known composers (J. D. Zelenka, J. A. Sehling, F. Jiránek, etc.). In 2010 the ensemble was awarded the prize for the quality interpretation and spreading of Czech music by the Czech section of the International Music Council of UNESCO.

Since 2001 Collegium Marianum has been organising the concert series Baroque Evenings and is the resident ensemble of the Summer Festivities of Early Music.
