Kowton
Bristol based producer Joe Cowton's work manages something that might seem almost impossible: He successfully traverses the boundaries between dubstep and techno.
Cowton made his first foray into dubstep production while he was studying music technology in Manchester. Inspired by a rave that he visited and records, he started to craft his own take on the dubstep sound. His first releases came under his Narcosst moniker, fusing together sub-bass tones with the rhythmic skip of UK garage on the imprints Mindset and Clandestine Cultivations.
His debut release as Kowton for Keysound dropped the tempo down by a good 15BPM and tries to integrate heavily swung rhythms and dubstep production tropes into a house and techno template. Hereby, Cowton has manages to create a unique niche for himself.
