Zonal is the joint project of Kevin Martin and Justin K. Broadrick. Under the name Techno Animal, they worked together as one of the most innovative abstract dance acts from the mid 90s to the turn of the millennium. With The Bug (Martin) and JK Flesh (Broadrick) they were able to build a strong musical reputation as solo acts as well. Their shared passion for a slow, ultra-deep sound that combines bass, dub, drone and noise is even more massive and monolithic than ever on their EP Cage Version / No Version, released in July on Relapse Records. Before Zonal and Moor Mother’s Wrecked debut album will be released in October, they’ll play live at the Berghain with American poet and musician Camar Ayewa aka Moor Mother. Moor Mother is considered one of the strongest and most radical Afrofuturist artists of recent years and is the vocalist in the three collaborative performance groups Irreversible Entanglements, Moor Jewelry and 700bliss. The support act is played by the Danish artist Frederikke Hoffmeier aka Puce Mary. On her albums for labels like Posh Isolation and PAN, where her critically acclaimed last album The Drought was released last year, she creates a harsh, experimental sound that she uses to formulate personal stories and thoughts.
