Zero Kama

Zero Kama is the cult music project of Austrian artist Zoe Dewitt, a pivotal figure of the 1980s post-industrial and experimental scene. Founded as part of her label Nekrophile Rekords (1983–1990) – one of Europe’s pioneering industrial imprints releasing influential acts like Lustmord, Coil, Korpses Katatonik, Contrastate, and Anenzephalia – Zero Kama gained international notoriety with the occult concept album “The Secret Eye of L.A.Y.L.A.H.” (1984), recorded entirely on instruments crafted from human bones and skulls. This work remains one of the darkest and most iconic statements in the history of industrial music.

After nearly forty years of silence, Zoe resurrected Zero Kama with a modern incarnation that preserves the project’s original essence while bringing it into the 21st century. Today, she works exclusively with samples from the 1984 recordings, transforming them through modular synthesis and digital processing. The rhythms of skull drums evolve into pulsating techno beats, droning passages morph into acid-tinged basslines, and recognizable fragments of old tracks intertwine with uncompromisingly experimental new decompositions. Live performances are complemented by generative video-synth visuals, conjuring a magical, dark, and hypnotic ritual for contemporary audiences – a convergence of the underworld, archaic instincts, magical symbolism, and ecstatic self-realization.
