Zamek w Szymbarku
Szymbark Castle is a spectacular, well-preserved ruins of a 14th century castle in the village of Szymbark, near Ilawa. The castle was built by the Pomezanian chapter and later transformed into the ancestral residence of the East Prussian family, the von Finckenstein. It is the second largest Gothic castle in Poland, after Malbork. The castle survived World War II intact, however, it was looted and burned by the Red Army after the liberation of Poland. According to various sources, the castle is one of the places where the famous amber chamber is hidden. As of 2019, the Szymbark Castle Foundation is taking care of the revitalization process of the castle.
