Zámek Líšno

Líšno Chateau is situated in the picturesque Central Bohemian countryside just a few kilometres from Konopiště Chateau, the sports airport in Nesvačily and the golf course in Tvoršovice. The building of the offered castle in the castle grounds was declared an immovable cultural monument in 1998 (the castle building and the park) and is listed as such in the relevant register of the ÚSKP (Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic, maintained by the National Heritage Institute).

On the site of the present chateau in Líšná originally stood the castle of Lešno, founded on a protected site among the marshes. The castle was founded around 1367 by Benes of Dubá. After 1478 Šternberky Castle was rebuilt in the late Gothic style. An extensive Renaissance reconstruction followed in 1536. During the Thirty Years' War the estate was devastated. The unmaintained castle fell into disrepair, the rapidly changing owners had little interest in it. It was not until 1872 that it was rebuilt in its present form in the Romantic style by the industrialist Čeňek Daňek of Esse.

Since 1945 it has been the central school of the Czechoslovak Red Cross. As the castle did not stand on a prominent promontory, it was secured by a massive walled moat. The gate leading into the park surrounding the core has not been preserved. The rectangular courtyard is enclosed by two rectangular palaces connected by walls, one of which is adjoined by a staircase tower. A park with pavilions, sculptures and the under-castle pond was created around the castle.
