Conversation with the participation of Prof. Maria Poprzęcka, Dr. Kuba Szreder and Dr. Jan Sowa. The discussion, organized by the Warsaw Museum of Modern Art, will be moderated by Joanna Sokołowska.

What makes selected fragments of the archive of socially engaged art up-to-date at a given moment? What needs and diagnoses of the contemporary world are expressed through the public commemoration of artists who participated in past political discussions?

The exhibition Henryk Streng/Marek Włodarski and Polish-Jewish Modernism will be a pretext for a discussion about the contemporary usefulness (or uselessness) of historical socially engaged art. Prof. Maria Poprzęcka, Dr. Kuba Szreder, and Dr. Jan Sowa will discuss the intertwining of history, politics, and art, focusing on retroactive strategies for updating artistic and political activities. Why can exhibitions of historical artifacts have an interventionist character? What policies is engaged avant-garde art used for? What is the revisionary potential of the exhibition Henryk Streng/Marek Włodarski and Polish-Jewish Modernism?

Participants: Maria Poprzęcka, Jan Sowa, Kuba Szreder

The meeting will be held via the Zoom app. The debate will be streamed on the Museum's Facebook profile:https://www.facebook.com/MuzeumSztukiNowoczesnej.
