At the last meeting of the “Around the Table” series we will take a detailed look at the rich tableware.
Beautiful and rich in food tableware cannot be deprived of tablecloths, tableware, silverware, jugs, chalices and other wonderful objects. Who is not going to be impressed by Benvenuto Cellini’s salt shaker (ca. 1545), Paola Veronese jugs in Wesele in Cana, Jan Davidsz de Heem’s silver plates or the shiny Nautilus of the Dutch masters? When did personal forks appear next to knives, which have been individual cutlery since the late Middle Ages? What does an overturned patera in Martin Nature by Pieter Claesh mean? A lot of riddles on the tables of the great masters await examination and admiration.
