The period film Waves, directed by Jiří Mádl, shows the thrilling and hitherto secret stories of Czechoslovak Radio journalists. At the end of the 1960s, when rock & roll was blasting from the airwaves and student revolts were changing the world, the older of the brothers joins the prestigious radio newsroom. He soon finds himself in a dangerous battle between editors and the secret service. In a whirlwind of events, all lives are soon on the line and the protagonist faces a stark choice: protect his brother or protect the truth and his colleagues? The film is inspired by the true story of a group of journalists from the international desk of Czechoslovak Radio and their determination to bring independent news at any cost.
