VNV Nation
Pop, Dance | Formed in 1990, VNV Nation coined the term 'futurepop' to describe their pioneering club-ready fusion of EBM, synthpop and progressive trance, with the name later being embraced by like-minded contemporaries like Assemblage 23, Icon of Coil and Apoptygma Berzerk. The project's founding and sole constant member is Irishman Ronan Harris, who released the first VNV Nation album Advance and Follow in 1995; since then, the project's discography has grown to include ten LPs, increasingly influenced by orchestral trance and in some cases featuring full-blown neoclassical pieces. Their latest release was 2018's Noire, which earned favourable reviews from dark culture-affiliated press.
