Vistel Brothers

Jorge and Maikel Vistel hail from Santiago de Cuba (Cuba) in a family with an extended music tradition. Their father, Jorge Vistel, a trumpet player, introduced the young brothers early on to the music world. While only in their teens, Jorge and Maikel became highly skilled in jazz improvisation and they were soon renowned for their maturity and musicality. Alone, each musician is outstanding, but together, the brothers' connection creates improvisational magic.

The band was founded in ENA (National School of Art, La Habana), where the brothers were studying. When the brothers moved to Spain in 2006 they went along with their protect, and they keep on evolving their music and themselves as musicians. The band has participated in several festivals around the world. Important festivals to mention are Monterrey Jazz Festival (EEUU), Bermudas Jazz Festival, Habana Jazz Plaza and Varadero Jazz Festival, just to mention some. Since they moved to Spain in 2006 they have played in festivals such as Móstoles and Zamora Jazz Festival. Jorge in the trumpet and Maikel in the sax are the main members of Vistel Brothers along with other great musicians, such as David Virelles, Cuban living in New York, at the piano; Reinier Elizarde (El Negrón) at the bass and Iago Fernández at the drums. In May 2010 their first album, Evolution, was released with the record label Freshsound New Talents.
