Viktor Sheen

Viktor Sheen is a Czech rapper and singer from Kazakhstan, currently living in Kladno.

Viktor Sheen, formerly known as Charles Sheen, began his musical career in 2009 as a member of the Crap Crew from Kladno. In 2010 he released his debut solo project, the mixtape Pod povrchem, followed by another mixtape, Sector 5. Before the release of his next mixtape Winning, he became a member of the group Da Staffers, in which were also producer Ceha and Ougi. After the group broke up, he released the EP Level Up on August 15, 2014 under the Blakkwood Records label, which featured Sharlota, Renne Dang, among others.

Victor Sheen, already under this pseudonym, and Renne Dang released a collaborative project in 2015 called Project Asia. Title refers to the origins of both rappers. The album consists of 16 tracks plus one bonus track, Confirm Skills featuring rapper Fosco Alma. Sheen's last release under Blakkwood Records was the album NSD, which featured tracks such as the melancholic track Ibalgin and the track Grál with Jimmy Dickson.

After leaving the label on February 13, 2017, Viktor Sheen released his debut solo album Jungler that same year, and a year later, in 2018, he dropped a collaborative album with rapper Jickson, Grál. The album, which bears the same name as their first joint track, featured 13 tracks that also featured other members of the Milion+ label, namely Yzomandias, Hasan and Nik Tendo.

In 2019 Viktor's breakthrough solo album Černobílej svět was released. The album became the best-selling original Czech album of 2019 and the second best-selling album in 2020. The album is led by the track Až na měsíc, featuring Calin, Hasan and Nik Tendo, and is one of his most listened to tracks on Spotify.

Viktor Sheen followed up the success of Černobílej svět with albums Barvy (2020) and Příběhy a sny (2021). The album Barvy saw a record-breaking rise in streaming, with one million streams in the first 20 hours. The album Příběhy a sny became the best-selling Czech album of 2022 and the single Rozdělený světy won the Český Anděl 2021 poll in the Most Streamed Czech Song category. The albums Černobílej svět and Barvy were nominated for the Anděl Award in the Rap category.

The series is a kind of coming to terms with one's own past, but also with the future. This trilogy captures the internal conflict between the roles that Victor Sheen should fill. The struggle between a young man's desires and the arrival of his own child, all while pursuing a successful rap career. For example, in the song Baby Shark from the album Příběhy a sny, Victor Sheen and Robin Zoot rap about how they and their lifestyle have changed because of their children. The color motif in this series symbolizes that change in outlook on their own lives.

In 2023, specifically on Friday, February 3, Victor Sheen and rapper and singer Calin released a collaborative album, Roadtrip. The album stayed at the top of the Czech album sales chart for almost half a year. The album also features the track Safír, which has already crossed the 40 million listens mark on Spotify. The project's success has led to a tour and even a joint concert at the O2 arena on 12 October 2023. A live recording of tracks from the show is available on Spotify.

It was at a concert at the O2 arena, just a few hours before the release, where Viktor Sheen announced the release of his next project, Planeta opic. The album features Yzomandias, PTK, and Annet X and it bears the same name as the song that was the opening track of Jungler. This album was awarded at the Anděl 2023 awards as the best collaborative project of the year.

There are several recurring motifs in Viktor Sheen's work that the rapper uses to describe his reality. The most frequent of these is the motif of monkeys, which he uses to describe his friends, his fans, and the people around him. The world in which he lives is then referred to as a jungle or planet of the apes. The album Jungler also featured, for example, the tracks Nescafé and Tchibo, and in 2021 the single Lavazza was released, closing this imaginary "coffee" series.

In 2024, Victor Sheen had a concert at the O2 Arena again, but this time, alone. The concert took place on December 7, 2024. Exactly one month before this concert, at midnight on November 7, 2024, Viktor Sheen released another album, which is called Impostor syndrom. The 16 tracks on the 2 discs describe Viktor's ambivalence and the so-called “impostor syndrome”, the feeling that his skills and talents are not enough to match the success he receives for his music. The video for the song Syndrom was also released with the album, which has racked up over 200,000 views in just 4 days.

During January and February 2025 Viktor Sheen will embark on a tour called Opičí Syndrom Tour 2025 in Czech and Slovak clubs. Tickets are available at GoOut.
