Three New York women in the " best ager age " came together to form one of the most interesting New York formations. In January 2023 they released their second album with Jaro Medien. Female bands are still underrepresented in the rock and pop business. In the fashion industry, " best agers" agencies are all the rage, and their own newspapers are springing up. Women in music is now also a big topic and it is promoted everywhere. Even Carolin Kebekus is now campaigning for women in the music business, and even organised her own festival in Cologne. With the VKB Band, one can see what three multi-instrumentalists are doing with their great love for Tom Waits. The band name was inspired by the title of the Woody Allen film about the relationship between three women and a man. It is the same here with this exciting music project. Three women and the music of Tom Waits, an appealing theme, which they have already been able to present on three smaller European tours. Above all, VKB want to show the influence of co-author Kathleen Brennan, Tom Waits' wife, in their interpretations. "Everything fits together here" wrote one critic after the last tour. It's a multicultural adventure that is by turns beautiful, funny, disturbing and poignant. VKB Band, that's Rachelle Garniez, Amanda Homi and Mamie Minch, a power trio of acclaimed New York artists who have come together to reinterpret the songs of Tom Waits. With their uplifting and inventive vocal harmonies and a treasure trove of instruments including banjos, bottles, squeezeboxes and horns, they create a soundscape that is at once powerful, playful and poignant. Each of them is a blend of storyteller and multi-instrumentalist, each practising their respective craft with over 100 years of show business experience. They meet at the crossroads of tragedy and comedy to unearth the beautiful diamonds in the rough of Waits' songs, uncovering new facets at every turn.

VKB's second album Yesterday Is Here, recorded in New York City, continues the story of the group's exclusive relationship with the songs of Tom Waits. The past two years of performing on stages across Europe and the US, and struggling through the constraints of the pandemic age, have given them an added appreciation for the unadulterated beauty and power of their sound, and an immediately affecting quality to their music that is reflected in the warmth and intimacy of the recording. They redefine the Tom Waits songbook with love, bringing a unique female perspective to the rough and rugged rubble. The mystical, mischievous male archetypes: Beat poets, railway hobos, sloppy drunks, cynics and hopeless romantics, the leading roles in Waits' tales, are transformed, their beauty and vulnerability revealed. Melodies burst forth and shine like polished diamonds, no longer in the rough.
