Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Unknown Mortal Orchestra began in 2010 as the recording project of Ruban Nielson. After recording several songs and posting them anonymously online, Nielson signed to Fat Possum Records and released his self-titled debut Unknown Mortal Orchestra in 2011 to critical acclaim and success. A gruelling touring schedule gave birth to the more complex and troubled sophomore album II, released on Jagjaguwar Records in 2012, which saw the full band become a top, in-demand live act. In 2015, Nielson released the album Multi-Love, which told the story of a polyamorous relationship and brought them a higher profile. The band's fourth album Sex & Food was released in April 2018, combining all the different sounds they're known for, from alternative R&B to burnt-out heavy psych and dreamy disco.
