The band Trivium was formed in 1999 in Florida when its leader, guitarist and vocalist Matt Heafy, was still in high school and entered a talent competition where he was spotted by a metalhead friend who wanted to start a band. Its name reflects the members' musical fascinations—melodic death metal, metalcore and thrash metal.
In the few years since its formation, Trivium has made quite a name for itself on the scene. The band has been awarded by Kerrang! and Metal Hammer, and Matt was invited to participate in a special release to celebrate the Roadrunner Records label's anniversary. Alongside Heafy, the driving force behind Trivium are guitarist Corey Beaulieu and drummer Paolo Gregoletto. The men do not lock themselves into one style, which is probably one of the sources of their commercial success (several million albums sold).
