Transmediale creates a space for critical reflection on cultural transformation from a post-digital perspective. For more than 30 years, the festival for art and digital culture has brought together international women artists, researchers, activists and thinkers to develop new perspectives on our technological times by interweaving different genres and curatorial forms. Throughout its history, Transmediale has evolved from its beginnings as VideoFilmFest into one of the most important events for art and digital culture worldwide.
Due to the Corona pandemic, the festival organizers decided to hold Transmediale throughout the year with a kick-off on Jan 23, 2021.
With an exhibition in two venues in Berlin and a film program in the Transmediale Studio, the one-year festival of Transmediale will begin on January 23, 2021. The first part of the annual program brings together artistic positions that question systems of control and exert alternative forms of social pressure to create space for possibility and hope through tactics of refusal.
