Joshua Sabin

In his work, British composer and sound artist Joshua Sabin examines sound phenomena through scientific approaches. Sabin’s his first album, Terminus Drift, used field recordings made in public transit systems in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Berlin; the release of his second album, Sutarti, was preceded by extensive research into the traditional Lithuanian singing technique sutartine. On this widely-praised album, Sabin didn’t use recordings from Lithuanian ethnic-music archives: he translated the compositional techniques characteristic of sutartine to a completely different music form. Joshua Sabin lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, and publishes with the Berlin experimental label Subtext.
