Ivo Kahánek

Ivo Kahánek is a Czech pianist. In 2004 he was the absolute winner of the Prague Spring International Music Competition and before that he had already won prizes in many important competitions in the Czech Republic and abroad (Maria Canals Piano Competition in Barcelona, Vendome Prize in Vienna, Stiftung Tomassoni Wettbewerb in Cologne, etc.). Among his many concerts, one can mention at least the performances at the BBC Proms in London's Royal Albert Hall with Jiří Bělohlávek and the BBC Symphony Orchestra or concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. In addition, Ivo Kahánek collaborates regularly with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and has had successful performances with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Wiener Symphoniker, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Glasgow, Bamberger Symphoniker and many others. Among the other important artists with whom he has collaborated are conductors Semjon Byčkov, Paavo Järvi, John Eliot Gardiner, Jakub Hrůša, Tomáš Netopil, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Rafael Payare, violinist Daniel Hope, cellist Alissa Weilerstein, Pavel Haas Quartet, Tetzlaff Quartet, soprano Martina Janková and tenor Pavel Černoch. His recording of the piano concertos of Antonín Dvořák and Bohuslav Martinů with the Bamber Symphony and Jakub Hrůša on the Supraphon label won him the prestigious BBC Music Magazine Award. Other important awards include the Diapason d'Or, two Anděl awards in the Classical category and the Classic Prague Award for Soloist Performance of the Year. He has also been nominated for ICMA and Opus Klassik awards for his recordings. Ivo Kahánek is a graduate of the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In addition to his career as a pianist, he is currently an associate professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
