Lotto

Lotto was formed in late 2012. They explore the outer borders of improv, country and noise rock through repetitive structures and their mutations. Their debut album Ask The Dust was released in late 2014 by Lado ABC. Lotto has played many concerts including at important festivals such as Jazz Jantar in Gdańsk, Nickelsdorf Konfrontationen in Austria, Densités in France, Kraak in Belgium (with Konrad Smoleński) and at Heidelberg's Enjoy Jazz. Lotto's second album, Elite Feline, was released in April 2016 on the Instant Classic label and received a warm critical reception - Gazeta Wyborcza and the website Beehy.pe declared it album of the year. Their further albums, VV from 2017 and Hours After from 2020, which continued their signature brand of post-rock, were also warmly received by critics and fans of the band.

In May 2022 Lotto performed at the Spatif club in Warsaw and it was this concert that gave the impetus for the Summer album. At the time, the band was known for playing extreme sounds, the instrumentation was all electric, complemented by synthesisers and the percussion processed. This was a consequence of the sound contained on the previously released album - Hours After. Before the Spatif performance itself, the musicians decided to make a radical change. Instead of playing very loud and intense music again, which is what the audience expected, Lotto played a muted concert, with subdued, standing, disturbing music, at times bordering on silence. The instrumentation was very simplified, acoustic drums, double bass and guitar - as the only electric instrument. On the latest album Axolotl, the original instruments the musicians were known for do not actually appear. The basis of the whole thing was electronic, there is no bass guitar or double bass at all, the guitar appears at one point, and the drums are either processed, with reverbs or replaced by a drum machine. It was important this time to capture a sound detached from their own habits and not entirely associated with Lotto, which required a lot of imagination on the part of the musicians.
