Petr Kroutil

Petr Kroutil is a Czech jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, singer, flutist and composer, born in Prague in 1973.

He studied music from an early age – he started playing recorder at the age of six and switched to clarinet at the age of nine. After finishing his studies at the Gymnasium Botičská, he graduated from the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Saxophone and Clarinet. In 2003 he studied Performance and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music. After moving to Nepal for almost two years in January 2004, he attended bamboo flute classes at Kathmandu Music University. At the age of 18, he became a member of the Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra.

In 2016, Petr Kroutil founded a big band based on the jazz of the 1920s and 1930s, the Original Vintage Orchestra (OVO). The vocal trio Hot Sisters, the world vice-champion in classical dance Nikol Mikeskova and the director and presenter Jiří Vejdělek regularly collaborate with the big band. Michal Malátný, Dalibor Gondík, Petr Jablonský, Karel Vágner, Matěj Rupert, Tereza Černochová, Ondřej Havelka, Rosie Havelková, Dani Robinson (USA), Kate Mátl and others have been occasional guests of the ensemble.

With his latest musical project KroutiLOVE he composed the theme song for the film Sladký život – By the Way. The lyrics were written by his wife Jarka Kroutilová.
