DVA

DVA is a Czech musical duo of Bára Ungerová (*1981) and Jan Kratochvíl (*1976), who are also known from the DNO Theatre. DVA was formed in 2006 and entered wider awareness after the release of their successful album Fonók in September 2008, which earned them a nomination for the Anděl Award in the alternative music category.

DVA themselves say that they play “tango, cabaret, circus, pop songs, kitchen beatbox, freakfolk, acoustic electro and electric acoustic in a double layered package”. They describe their first album Fonók as “folklore of non-existent nations”, and their follow-up album Hu (2010) as “pop from non-existent radios”. Their music is characterized by lyrics in their own invented languages (sometimes reminiscent of German, Hungarian, Swedish,...).
