Hipolit House

Dating from the 14th century, the building owes its name to the Italian-born merchant family of the Hipolits, who owned it in the 17th century. In the second half of the century, it became the property of the Zaleski family, also merchants, and later changed owners and tenants many times.

It was rebuilt many times, traces of which have been preserved to this day. The cellars and stone portals date from the 14th century, while the Renaissance inter-window column and polychrome, the Baroque stucco of Balthasar Fontana and the under-ceiling frieze, as well as the wooden porches of the courtyard, date from later times. The Rococo left its mark in the form of polychrome, as did the 19th century. Today, all this, after many years of thorough restoration, can be admired in an interior exhibition - in 2003 a branch of the Krakow Museum opened in the building, which arranged a permanent exhibition Bourgeois House in it, showing the realities of everyday life of Krakow's bourgeoisie over the centuries.
