A dark comedy based on Anton P. Chekhov, adapted by Dörte Hansen and Antú Romero Nunes.

“The sun is shining, but my heart is dark.” – Anton Chekhov

The apple trees are blossoming in the Altes Land. But for how much longer? Astrid von Holt has returned from Berlin after years of pleasure. Her farm and the family's apple orchard are to be sold to pay off debts. Perhaps everything could still turn out for the best, because the capable businessman Torben Grabowski has a very concrete proposal: tiny houses instead of an apple orchard. But is that the solution? Astrid's brother Gunnar von Holt prefers to get money from a rich aunt to save everything. After all, where else is their elderly mother Beke von Holt supposed to spend her twilight years? What will become of the capable Wiebke, who manages the entire farm? Or would it be better to leave everything behind? Astrid von Holt and her personal assistant Alex are drawn back to Berlin. Anja is stressed by the whole family, so the somewhat strange Dennis tries to show her an alternative way. And then there's the neighbour Bert, who has his own interests.
