Teatr Dzieci Zagłębia im. Jana Dormana
The Jan Dorman Theatre of the Children of Zagłębie was founded by its patron, an artistically trained teacher who, in the difficult reality of post-war Poland, created performances for small audiences, reaching out to the communes and towns of Silesia and Zagłębie. Eventually, the institution was relocated to Będzin in 1950, and on 1 April 1951 it was given its present-day name of Teatr Dzieci Zagłębia (Children of Zagłębie Theatre), which Dorman managed continuously until 1978. On the tenth anniversary of his death in 1996, the Theatre took the name and patronage of its founder. For years, thanks to Dorman, the Children's Theatre Zagłębie was regarded as one of the most avant-garde Polish theatres for children and young people, as well as one of the best children's theatres in Poland and abroad, becoming one of the most important artistic phenomena in the culture of Silesia and Zagłębie in the second half of the 20th century.
