Synagogue Status Quo Ante

The Jewish community built a synagogue in the status quo ante in 1897 according to the designs of the architect Jakob Gartner (1861-1921), a prominent Viennese specialist in synagogues. The building of a characteristic unplastered brickwork with a two-tower facade is located in the historic city center. The prayer area is a basilica triple nave with a female gallery supported by cast iron pillars.

After a partial reconstruction in the nineties of the 20th century, the synagogue began to be used as an exhibition space - the Center for Contemporary Art of the Ján Koniark Gallery in Trnava. The women's gallery has a permanent exhibition of Judaica from the collection of the Jewish religious community in Bratislava. In front of the synagogue stands a Holocaust memorial designed by architect Arthur Szalatnai-Slatinsky (1891-1961).
