In the 2018/2019 season Johannes Öhman took over as artistic director, as well as for the 2019/2020 season together with Sasha Waltz as co-director. In August 2020, Christiane Theobald has taken over the artistic directorship of the Berlin State Ballet, followed by Christian Spuck in 2023.

As Berlin's only classically trained ballet company, the dancers of the company excel in the entire diversity of the ballet repertoire. Firmly anchored in the classical repertoire, neoclassical and contemporary works are also presented.

The company dances on the stages of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. In addition to these permanent venues, the company also takes advantage of opportunities to perform at other venues in the city, for example at the Tempodrom Berlin.
