Sophie Ellis-Bextor
British singer-songwriter best known for her 2001 disco-tinged hit Murder on the Dancefloor. She began her career as the singer of indie-rock band Theaudience; after the group broke up, she went solo. Her first big hit was Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) by Italian DJ Spiller, to which she contributed vocals; Groovejet entered the UK charts at number one, beating Victoria Beckham's solo debut. Since then, Ellis-Bextor has released six solo albums, at first inspired by 1980s disco and pop, later turning to indie pop and folk.
