Smetana Trio

The Smetana Trio is a chamber trio playing a classical line-up of piano, violin and cello.

The trio was founded in 1934 by pianist Josef Páleníček, who was accompanied by violinist Alexandr Plocek and cellist František Smetana. The artistic guarantor of the Smetana Trio was Josef Páleníček, an artist, composer and music teacher.

The modern Smetana Trio has had extraordinary success thanks to its members, who, in addition to their skill as soloists, also have a flair and sense for collective playing. It has become a regular guest at important music festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad (France, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Japan, Brazil). In joint performances with orchestras, they collaborate with well-known conductors such as Jiří Bělohlávek, Libor Pešek, Stanislav Vavřínek, John Axelrod and Michael Boder.
