Slavic Jazz Underground

Slavic Jazz Underground concert in the Warsaw club BARdzo bardzo.

Slavic Jazz Underground is a music collective created by Lena Romul - saxophonist, vocalist and composer. The idea of the band is to combine folk inspirations with contemporary, slightly electronic and slightly jazz music. The band consists of 3 equal voices - Lena Romul, Martyna Zając, Patrycja Malinowska and instrumentalists Patryk Kraśniewski, Bartek Alber, Piotr Olszewski and Jerzy Markuszewski. Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign after releasing the first tracks, SJU raised funds to record a debut album. Production and recording was undertaken by Mariusz Dziurawiec and Jarosław Smak from Studio AS One, and as guests on their first album you can hear the singing Women from Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa, Magda Sobczak on dulcimer, the leader of Żywiołak - Robert Jaworski on hurdy gurdy, Bart Pałyga on fiddle and pipes and Łukasz Czekała in a jazz solo on violin. The icing on the cake is the saxophones of the collective's leader. The graphic design was done by Lena's sister, Justyna Romul.
