Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge are schoolmates from Tromsø who started experimenting with music production together in the late 1990s. They took the Norwegian word for puffball as their joint group name. Their 2001 debut album Melody AM brought the duo thousands of devoted fans, excellent reviews and worldwide fame. Subsequent studio albums have cemented Röyksopp's position as stars and classics of contemporary electronica. Recordings inspired by house, ambient and synth-pop music are distinguished by their unique style and timeless quality. They have often found their way into commercials, computer games and films, such as the FIFA game series. Röyksopp have remixed artists such as Depeche Mode, Lady Gaga, Peter Gabriel, Beck, The Streets, Roots Manuva, Felix da Housecat, Kings of Convenience and many others. The group's latest release is a series of three albums entitled Profound Mysteries I, II and III. The albums are accompanied by collections of short films, each by a different director, and animated visuals by artist Jonathan Zawada.
