Roxanne de Bastion

She was born in Berlin and is at home in London. The singer-songwriter Roxanne de Bastion also spans this arc on her new album You & Me, We Are The Same. The British singer-songwriter Roxanne de Bastion took four years to write her new album. The Berlin-born singer-songwriter has suffered during these years, and not only from Corona. She lost her father, who shaped her path as a musician. Nevertheless, the singer says about You & Me, We Are The Same: "This is not a sad album." Because suffering is just part of it.

The young Londoner is now releasing a very personal, but also ever-melodic, life-affirming album in which she celebrates her love of music, of the Beatles, of delicate guitar sounds, unusual chord leaps and bold rhythms. And to sounds – as in the song London, I Miss You, which begins with Berlin and ends with the sound of the underground Tube.

With spherical sounds, Molecules introduce themselves in the first track of the album, before swinging into the driving rhythm of hard guitar riffs. Lyrically, Roxanne connects this music with very fundamental reflections on molecules as the building blocks of life: What if God could be found there? Molecular biologist, molecular theology, molecular music.

Roxanne de Bastion's songs defy quick, catchy interpretation. But they give us an inkling of how life can become light-footed again when everything around it is getting heavier and heavier. The Weight is the last and quietest song on the album. Heavy Lifting* also speaks of a bad time, but resolutely breaks up the melancholy with a stubbornly gentle sequence of four notes that are always the same.

How many breaths do we have? Roxanne de Bastion answers this question in her song Smoke with bold leaps of her vocal ability. And she speaks of dissolving tendencies of a patchwork art. Her new album brings feelings together.

On February 04, 2023 Roxanne returns to Berlin for an intimate show at ART Stalker. Tickets should be ordered quickly to avoid disappointment!

Note: The last tickets are available at the box office for 17€.
