The measures to combat the COVID-19 virus have had a devastating impact on many core parts of our societies across the globe. At Prague Fringe we are facing the most challenging situation in our entire 20 year history. Just days before launching the 2020 programme, with the festival at our fingertips, we were forced to make the gut-wrenching decision to postpone the event. Because of the uncertainty surrounding border closures, movement of people, closure of theatres, and bans on large group gatherings, we are now faced with the very real, and very scary possibility that due to matters outside of our control, we may be forced to cancel the event altogether and not have a Fringe in 2020 at all. We have therefore launched our first official fundraising appeal to secure the future of the festival. We have calculated that a minimum amount of 1,000,000 CZK / 36,500 EUR will be needed in case a cancellation of Fringe 2020 becomes necessary. Raising this amount will determine whether the Prague Fringe can survive a cancellation this year and continue into its 20th year in 2021.
On behalf of all of the artists whose lives have been affected so drastically by this outbreak, and the team of festival staff (technicians, producers, managers etc) who continue to invest their time and energy into planning the event, we thank you in advance for your support.
