The performance The Bartered Bride on the Stages of the Provisional Theatre, Estates Theatre and National Theatre from 1868 to 2018 maps the path of a Czech actor through history. The performance is based on the authentic situations the actors had to go through. The starting point was historical moments that happened on the stage of the National Theatre, when no play was performed, but the stage served political purposes. There is one opera that goes almost unchanged through history. A piece that has often been played in critical moments - the Bartered Bride by Bedřich Smetana. A poetic picture of the Czech countryside, which never existed. A story of love, betrayal and intrigue. But what does it say now? On what grounds does the Czech theatre or the Czech identity stand?
