Objectively, It Is Necessary to Dig Sand is loosely based on a novel The Woman in the Dunes by Japanese author Kóbó Abe. The authors of the play investigate the concept of freedom which might seem obvious, but which is represented by many individual concepts – inner and outer freedom, freedom material and spiritual, positive and negative, the freedom to fulfill own wishes and freedom from wishes. Although the topic of the play is very up-to date, the plot stays on the level of parable and does not have the ambition to explicitly comment on the individual political cases of modern times. The viewers are confronted with the questions that are provocative and that can relate to their own lives: What kind of freedom do we want? What are we willing to sacrifice for it? What is the price we pay for the freedom? How do we know we are free?

Performances on 27th and 28th of February are part of the Malá inventura 2020 festival.
