Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had many talents: As a pianist he shone both as a chamber and church musician. His special interest, however, was in the music theater, in the same way as the opera seria and the opera buffa. The trilogy of the Da Ponte Operas, written in the mid and late 1780s on libretti by the witty Italian theater poet, has not in vain gained fame. The Figaro, already a successful piece in his lifetime, has become a model of a "musical comedy", admired by many, promoted by directors, conductors, singers and, last but not least, by the public as one of their favourites. Hardly any composer, like Mozart, has succeeded in revealing the fine and delicate emotional impulses of his characters in music, in a direct, highly concise and impressive manner. The thinking and feeling of Conte and Comtessa, Susanna and Figaro, Marcellina and Bartolo, to the emotionally torn page Cherubino unfolds plastically before the eyes and ears of the audience.
