_Fitting Rooms _ is a project based on Jacques Lacan’s “mirror theory”. It explores how the perception of one’s own image leads to an understanding of one’s own identity, which is different from others, yet defined in relation to them.
The performance takes place in two adjacent rooms, through which the performers travel between, constantly dividing the story into strings of discontinuous scenes. Relationships, oscillating between romantic, familial, and professional, are constantly being questioned; reality changes and corrects itself. Both rooms are test rooms, in a metaphorical sense – the back room, the invisible room, is where we undress and we can be ourselves; the front, empty room is where we meet and try to find our identity among others.
The premiere of this performance with international performers was supported and subsequently presented in Triskelion Arts, New York.
